Description: The Board of Directors of United Power, Inc. invites applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The current CEO has announced his retirement and the Board has contracted with NRECA’s Executive Search to facilitate the search process. United Power (unitedpower.com) is a growing cooperative that serves approximately 67,000 meters including 17 franchise cities and 5 counties, surrounding Denver on three sides. The service territory wraps around the north and west borders of Denver International Airport, and includes the north metropolitan development corridors of Interstates 25, 76, State Highway 85, and E-470. United Power has 165 employees, 3 office locations, and revenue in excess of 124 million dollars. The cooperative headquarters is in Brighton, Colorado, just 20 miles northeast of Denver with a population over 40,000. Brighton provides one of the lowest costs of living in the metro area with excellent schools and a great place for families. Denver offers professional sports, cultural events, shopping and many outdoor activities.
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate should be a proven leader with demonstrated career progression representative of high performers. They must have a strong business acumen, management, team building and supervisory experience at the senior management level. Electric utility industry experience is required. A demonstrated understanding and respect of the cooperative principles and business model is essential. Knowledge in the areas of financial management, power generation, renewable energy, Smart Grid technologies, transmission, distribution, strategic planning, board relations, rate structure, legislative issues and member relations are required. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication and personal/people skills. A high level of education is expected.
