United Power Announces 73rd Annual Meeting

United Power will hold its 2012 Annual Meeting of members at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Armory at 300 Strong Street in Brighton.

All United Power members are invited to attend the annual business meeting of the not-for-profit electric cooperative and cast their ballots in the 2012 director election. Registration opens at 5 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

A seat in each of the four director districts will be up for three-year term in 2012. To be eligible to become or remain a director, a person must be a United Power member and receive electric service from United at the member’s primary residence in the district he or she represents. A director cannot be engaged in a competing enterprise or in other businesses involving a conflict of interest. United Power’s bylaws provide in-depth information on director districts, qualifications, terms, elections, meetings and officers. Members can determine which district they live in by finding the information in the upper right hand box on their monthly statement.

Nominations by written petition must state the name and district of the nominee, must be signed by 15 or more United members, and be filed with the Board not less than 60 days prior to the Annual Meeting. The deadline for nominations by petition is Friday, February 17, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. Petitions are available at United Power’s headquarters in Brighton, at 500 Cooperative Way. Ballots will be mailed to all United Power members by the end of March. Ballots must be received at the post office no later than 6 a.m. on April 17 or in a ballot drop-box located at each of United Power’s offices by 4 p.m. on April 18. Members may also cast their ballots in-person at the Annual Meeting. Profiles of each candidate and detailed voting instructions will be included in the ballot packets.
