Public Safety Power Shutoff Staying Safe, Staying Connected As your local electric cooperative, we are committed to keeping the lights on – and we do not plan to use preemptive Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) on our local electric system unless the cooperative has no other option to ensure the safety of its members, employees, and system. In extreme fire weather conditions, our regional transmission provider may temporarily shut off power to protect the broader grid and the homes and businesses on these lines. These outages, while rare, could impact parts of United Power's service area and are beyond our direct control. Stay Prepared United Power will work to keep members informed if a public safety power shutoff is imminent. Members can take these steps today to stay informed and keep safe:- Be Outage READY and protect your family with a plan
- Update your account to ensure you receive notifications from United Power
- Create a backup power plan – especially if you or someone in your household relies on electric medical devices
- Charge electronics and other devices so you can access important updates
- Gather essential supplies like medications, food, and water

Rate Change Board Approves 2026 Rate Increase Following a comprehensive study to determine the overall costs associated with serving each rate class, the United Power Board of Directors approved increases to the cooperative’s rates, including adjustments to both demand and fixed charges. These changes – which equate to an average monthly bill increase of $16-25, or 11.44%, for the majority of residential members – will be reflected for energy usage beginning Jan. 1, 2026. In addition to the rate increase, the cooperative is shortening the current time of use window of 2-10 p.m. to 5-9 p.m. This will give members subscribed to any of the time of use rate options four additional hours of low-cost, off-peak power, affording them more flexibility in how and when they use their power. A comprehensive breakdown of rates and changes will appear in the December issue of the United Newsline, and additional information is available below. United Power has worked hard to keep rate increases to a minimum the last five years. Since 2020, members have only had one year of rate increases, with members seeing no increase in 2025. However, the cost of nearly everything the cooperative needs to build and maintain its system continues to rise. Essential components like transformers and poles, the cost to outfit and support co-op crews with trucks, tools, and equipment, and the added pressures from growing transportation costs and tariffs brings an additional layer of uncertainty to the financial planning for operations. Expenses that nearly every home and business have seen increase in the past year, like insurance and property taxes, are also impacting the cooperative. Changing the mix of generation resources, as required by Colorado’s Clean Energy Plan, is another component of these growing costs.07/23/2019 - 09:21 AM

Right-of-Way As a member-owned cooperative, United Power works hard to balance the needs of our members while delivering safe and reliable electric service. One of the essential aspects of maintaining power lines and utility infrastructure is having access to the designated areas known as utility easements and rights-of-way. Understanding these terms can help property owners make informed decisions about their land and landscaping. What is a Right-of-Way? A right-of-way is a specific area of land that gives United Power the legal right to build, operate, and maintain electric lines and equipment. This space allows our crews to safely access the property to perform maintenance, make repairs, and restore power during outages or emergencies. A right-of-way may be owned by United Power or granted through a utility easement on private property. While the terms “right-of-way” and “easement” are often used together, the right-of-way refers to the physical area, and the easement refers to the legal right that allows United Power to use that area. Please note: United Power is not a title company and cannot confirm property boundaries or guarantee the existence of easements. However, our land team is happy to review your property information and help point you in the right direction.10/03/2018 - 12:28 PM
